Let
2Hands come visit your classroom and help your students explore the
world of clay by learning about clay, along with basic handbuilding
techniques. The experience is an artistic way to complement the art
program using a 3-D medium.
It’s
a way to explore working with CLAY and express creativity.
2Hands has worked with teachers to assist in adding CLAY to the core
curriculum and a few examples include:
-
Students adapt the Ancient Civilization lesson they just have
learned with CLAY – where students created and carved an ancient
civilization theme, adding letters and applying symbols to create
a unique slab form + add underglaze paint to provide another
creative dimension.
-
Blending clay into a earth day lesson
-
Adding CLAY into the regular art curriculum.
Creating with CLAY stimulates children with different learning
styles
and it provides a wonderful hands on opportunity for
interacting and building socialization skills. The experience is a
creative outlet and most importantly provides the opportunity for
children to learn about a 3D medium, interact and create “one of a
kind art”
Children are always so proud of their accomplishment – and are
always so surprised once they receive the claywork back.
OBJECTIVE: To provide guidance, allowing students the liberty to
explore a tactile 3D medium. A child’s ability is worthless without
the occasion to express their creativity. 2Hands shows the basics of
clay handbuilding letting each student create a “work of art.” All
the clay work is taken back then fired and glazed and returned to
the classroom a few weeks later.
DESIGN OF THE EXPERIENCE: The process is a time of learning
and creating within a shared learning environment. Creating with
clay allows the child to stimulate and develop fine motor skills
while seeing the relationship of “cause and effect.” Students learn
to solve problems while seeing things in a different perspective.
Children are encouraged to develop their own unique style and are
applauded to make choices in this time of discovery.
